South Craven Walking4Health Group
South Craven Walking 4 Health (SCW4H) is a volunteer led scheme and was set up in 2008. We provide walks for people wishing to improve their health and general well-being. In particular we aim to:
* Support people with chronic health problems to build stamina and stay active
* Aid those recuperating from major illness, operations or injury
* Help lift mood of people with mental and emotional health needs
* Offer exercise for those with sedentary lifestyles who wish to improve their fitness.
FOR BETTER HEALTH, WALK WITH US!
The health walks vary between 30 - 90 minute in line with the Walking for Health Grading Scheme. Regular daytime and evening (summer only) walks are organised. For those not able nor confident to walk alone, walking with SCW4H provides a chance to take part in a friendly and mutually supportive group. In addition to the health benefits, walkers are able to:
- See and enjoy our splendid scenery
- Share heritage knowledge
- Meet new people and have fun!

Walk Programmes are provided for walkers on the following walks:
Mondays 9.30am & Thursdays 9.30am - morning walks in and around Crosshills/Glusburn, Silsden and nearby villages.
Shared transport for getting to/from walk locations. Refreshments at the end of walks. All Walk Grades are offered up to the maximum duration of 90 minutes according to health needs, distance, gradient and terrain.
30 minute walks (Grade 1) - specifically for people looking to begin some exercise, or who can undertake walks for a limited period, or are recuperating from injury, operation or illness for whom short walks can help recovery.
These walks are integrated within the Monday and Thursday walk programmes on a fortnightly basis.
Summer Evenings Walks (April-August) Wednesdays 6.30pm - primarily aimed at working people, who might be in sedentary jobs with limited daytime opportunities for exercise or who want a break from the stresses of work, whose health would benefit from some exercise in the company of others.
On occasions we arrange joint walks with other local Walking for Health schemes or in more distant locations and sometimes 'guest walkers' with specialist or local knowledge are invited to join us for a walk.
We are grateful for the support we have received from:
Airedale General Hospital - Cardio Rehab & Physiotherapy Departments; Craven CVS; Craven District Council; Craven Herald; Craven Volunteer Centre; Crosshills Group Practice & Patient Participation Group; National Trust; Pennine Prospects; Sutton-in-Craven village website; Yorkshire Dales National Park; all the many refreshment stops after our walks...
...and of course our walkers and Voluntary Walk Leaders.
Whilst you are welcome to contact us via the 'JOIN THIS SCHEME AS WALKER' button we recommend that initially you get in touch with our Co-ordinator to check out the suitability of our walks in relation to your health needs.
