Walking for Health - Cartmel Surgery

About Us

Cartmel Health Walks have been promoted by Cartmel Surgery since 2010 and are held every Tuesday morning at 11am, lasting about 1 hour. A 30 minute walk is also available.

Mild walking can help prevent many illnesses such as high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, depression and stress.

At Cartmel Surgery we put our patients health first and by offering short walks in the local community we know we can help prevent some of our patients for becoming ill from lack of physical activity.

So you don't have to be ill to join us, we are keen for anyone who wants to lead a healthy lifestyle to come and join our fun, informal and local walks and you too can enjoy feeling the benefits!

If you cannot make a Tuesday, or wish to do a second walk in a week, look up the information on the nearby Grange Health Walk which is held at 11am every Thursday.

The walks start at 11am every Tuesday.  Free parking is available just inside the paddock/grandstand entrance to Cartmel Racecourse (LA11 6QF).  Please note this is not the main village pay and display car park.  The walk start is about 10 minutes gentle walk from the village main bus stop.  From the village square, take the road to the right of the Village Shop (home of Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding) proceeding along the side of the racecourse for about 200 metres to the main gate.  Free parking is available on the hard standing area on the left just after you have crossed the race track.  Please turn up 15 minutes early for your first walk in order to complete the registration form.

The main walk will last about 1 hour (though shorter walks can be undertaken according to individual's needs) and will follow one of a number of routes through the racecourse, and surrounding fields and woods.  Between 5 and 10 walkers usually attend and the length and route of the walk takes into account the abilities of those present.  Although the walks can be kept to level areas, most of the routes have to cross grass and tracks, which might make them difficult for wheelchairs or push chairs (it is recommended that you make contact with the leader in advance if you wish to bring these). A 30 minute walk is available.

Our Events

All walks are held on Tuesdays, starting at 11am and lasting for about 1 hour.  The start location is always the paddock/grandstand entrance to Cartmel racecourse.
