About Us

Sandhurst Health Walks has been in operation since February 2014. The walks are led and organised by a group of dedicated volunteers. We endeavour to have two walk leaders on every walk to ensure our walkers are well looked-after. We welcome all walkers...no-one will ever be 'too slow' or made to feel that they need to keep up. You walk at a pace you feel comfortable with, it is our job to walk with you! 

Even though we have been established for a short while, we already enjoy a steady 'membership'. It is a very friendly group!

We are always looking for volunteers to help us run this valuable service, if you are interested in helping us out, please do get in touch. The more volunteers we have the more walks we can host!

Our morning weekday walks start at 09:30 at Sandhurst Community Centre Monday to Friday. We walk through the Memorial Park on a route by the river.

Our main walk is "Take it to the bridge". We walk for approximately 45 minutes, (we have shorter and longer options of 10-30 and 60 minute walks available too, more about this later). The pathway is fairly even but can develop puddles after heavy/prolonged rainfall. With this in mind, we ask that you choose appropriate footwear. You should dress according to the weather conditions on the day.

If you would like to walk but feel that you won't be able to keep up with the pace of the 'main' group, please don't worry, we offer a shorter walk called 'Steps to Fitness' that runs in parallel with the 'Take it to the Bridge' walk which takes between 10-30 minutes. You will be able to enjoy a slower pace and shorter distance whilst still having the reassuring presence of a walk leader. These walks are particularly suitable for those who haven't partaken in exercise for a long while, or have a long-standing health condition, or recovering from surgery or treatment. There is no pressure to keep up or over-do it....just come along and have a go! When you arrive, mention to your Walk Leader that you would like to partake in the 'Steps to Fitness' Walks so they can arrange the group accordingly.

Some of our walkers like to do an extended walk beyond the bridge, which takes 55-60 minutes.

After the walk we will head to Pistachios in the Park for a coffee/tea and a chat. If you wish to partake, please bring some money for your drinks as sadly we aren't able to buy these for you (as much as we'd like to!).

We would like you to enjoy walking with us and would like to make this group a good-natured, fun one as this will encourage you to walk and keep walking....so come, bring your sense of humour and get chatting....and walking!

We do offer an evening walk at 7pm every Wednesday evening between April and mid-September (as soon as there is enough light in the evenings so be able to walk safely). These walks start at Horseshoe Lake and will be a longer duration and a faster pace than the morning walks. As we are walking later on in the evening, the coffee shop is not open, so all socialising will have to be done while you are walking!

PLEASE NOTE: The evening walks have finished for now but we'll be back in the Spring!
