Harrogate District - Walking for Health Scheme

About Us

Staying Steady Strollers, Harrogate and District Health Walk Scheme is run through Age UK North Yorkshire and Darlington.  We aim to provide, short, local walks which are accessible to those without a car.

Presently we are running three walks per week, most weeks of the year. They are one heart 30-40 min walks, in the following locations:

Harrogate

Tuesday's -11am. Leaving from The Post Office on Cold Bath Road, Harrogate, HG2 0NU.

Walking to Valley Gardens.

Tuesday's -10.30 am. Leaving from The Library in STARBECK on Knaresborough Road, Harrogate, HG2 77LW. Local walks.

Knaresborough

Thursday's -10.30am. Leaving from COGS The Centre on Gracious Street-The Bridge Community Cafe. Gracious Street, Knaresborough, HG5 8DS. Walks around Knaresborough.

The walks are enjoyable social gatherings with as much talking as walking.  We aim to find routes as level as possible so they are perfect for anyone starting to walk, recovering from surgery or with a long term health condition. They are also perfect for anyone not quite a fast, as they used to be!

We do not allow dogs on the walks, as they can pose a risk and because we often visit a cafe after the walks.

All walks are free!

If you would like to come along and join us as a walker you can just turn up and join in or you can contact Helen Steventon on 07850 328510 or the Age Uk Harrogate Office 01423 502253 for more information.

We look forward to meeting you!

Do you enjoy walking? Would you like to encourage others to walk more?

We are currently seeking volunteers in Harrogate and Knaresborough to support the walks we are already running and seeking volunteers to bring the walks to more areas of Harrogate District. In particular, Starbeck, Bilton and Ripon.

All walks have a mimimum of two vounteers per walk, so you will always have a volunteer on a walk with you. Training to become a health walk leader is completely free! All we ask is a minimum of 2 hours per month/2 walks as a volunteer.

If you would like to come along and join us as a volunteer. Please contact Helen Steventon on  07850 328510 or the Age Uk Harrogate Office 01423 502253 for more information or email helen.steventon@ageuknyd.org.uk

Our walks are aimed at those who are not quite as fast as they used to be! Also people who have never done much exercise before or perhaps as a result of an injury, surgery or a long term condition need to walk at a slower, steady pace. Walks are enjoyable and we do as much talking as walking. The social side of the groups is as important as the exercise. There are many benefits of being part of a group activity, the chance to chat and get to know new people and a walk with friends is always a tonic.

Come and join us and if you are looking for an opportunity to contribute to your local community, we would be very happy to train you to become a volunteer to support  the groups.
