Exeter: Stepping Out, Exeter
Exeter Stepping Out is part of Walking for Health in Devon.
There are currently walks held 6 days a week, from various locations in the city. These include evening walks in the late spring and summer months and a pushchair walk which takes place in the wonford area, school term time only.
The walks are led by trained, friendly, volunteer walk leaders who will be sure to give you a warm welcome. If you are a new walker, please arrive 10 minutes before the start time to complete a simple registration form.
All walks are free, all you need are comfortable shoes, loose fitting clothing and waterproofs if wet. And do bring some money if you wish to stop for refreshments afterwards.
Walking is the lowest risk of all physical activities, yet produces massive benefits to physical fitness and mental wellbeing. It is a great way to explore your local area, make new friends and learn more about your immediate community.
Devon County Council Public Health support Active Devon and Westbank to develop Walking For Health, so that more people in Devon can enjoy being part of a local health walk group.

At Stepping Out our aim is to encourage people to become more active through walking, especially those who haven't been active for a while, or who are recovering from illness.
We try to find attractive areas of the city to walk in, hence we have one walk along the Quay, one over playing fields and alongside the canal, one through the City Centre itself taking in the cathedral and other historic sites on the way, one alongside a reservoir, and one on playing fields bordering a beautiful valley park. All of these are within 2 and a half miles of the city centre.
At Stepping Out, Exeter! we rely on volunteers to lead the walks and encourage walkers to increase their activity levels. If you like people, enjoy being in the open air and could commit to a regualr slot once a week or once a fortnight, this could be for you. We also need volunteers for other aspects of the scheme, such as publicity and running the volunteer rota. We offer training, out of pocket expenses and ongoing support to all our volunteers.
