Cheltenham: Walk Well

About Us

**Local walks for Local people**

Come and join us on one of our regular, weekly walks which are FREE walks led by locally trained volunteers.

We walk 9 times a week Monday to Friday from various locations around Cheltenham and would love you to join us. We offer different options at each walk - shorter, 30 minute walks and a longer 45min-1 hour. We hope that this will help to accommodate those new to walking as well as those who would like more of a challenge.

SEASONAL SUNDAY WALKS:

July 2nd

Painswick Beacon

The walk is 5km/3miles, mainly dry turf and woodland paths, which may have a few damp patches if it rains. Excellent views from the top of the Beacon/Hill Fort. Meet at 2.15pm at end of the lane behind the Royal William. From Cheltenham take the A46 through Brockworth towards Painswick.  Just past the turn to Cranham turn right before the Royal William and drive up the lane to the end where there is parking for several cars..

August 6th

Seven Springs – Coberley

A fine country walk through Upper Coberley and Coberley with its fine old church. It is 5km/3¼ miles long on tracks, country lanes and field paths with the possibility of a few muddy patches if it has rained. Meet at 2.15 in car park opposite the Hungry Horse public house on the A436 at the junction with the A435, Cirencester Rd.

September 3rd

Hatherley - Shurdington Church

A walk across the fields between Hatherley and Shurdington. The route is 5½km/3½miles on metalled footpaths and field paths with the possibility some muddy patches. Meet at 2.15 outside Hillview Centre / Hatherley Library next to Morrisons supermarket.

Octber 1st

Barrow Wake - Coldwell Bottom

The 6km/3¾ mile route is mainly on tracks but with some field paths possibly with some muddy sections after rain. Meet at 2.15 in the car park at Barrow Wake view point. From the Air Balloon take the Cirencester road and then after almost a mile take the 1st turning right towards Birdlip. After 200m turn again and the view point is just over the cattle grid.

We have a fantastic group of volunteers who support our programme offering a friendly and warm welcome to new and returning walkers. Tea and coffee is encouraged after each walk and many of our walkers take up this opportunity - helping people to get to know each other and build friendships.

We are always looking to add to our group of volunteer walk leaders. If you are interested in leading and/or supporting a walk on our existing programme or you would like to start up your own walk, please contact the Health and Wellbeing Coordinator. We can offer you;

- Free walk leader training (1 day)
- Support to market and promote your walk
- First aid (although this isn’t compulsory)
- Membership to our Walk Leader Forum

So, if you enjoy walking, meeting new people and socialising, have good local knowledge and want to help out in your local community, please contact Chris Davis for more information.
