Applying for funding

The legs of people out on a Walking for Health walk

Our health walks are free, but in order for that to be the case, our schemes require sufficient funding from sources such as their local authorities and NHS commissioners.  The investment that schemes need can vary, and often depends on the size and scale of the scheme, but it can range from providing a salaried post for a scheme coordinator, to paying travelling expenses for volunteers; from investing in the promotion of the scheme, to covering the print costs for their latest walks programme.

We know that Walking for Health schemes are providing a valuable service for people across England - this is clear, not only from our walkers' stories, but from evidence of previous evaluations and analysis of our database.  This section of the site provides our schemes with information to help them apply for local funding, both by providing the national case for Walking for Health and also tips and advice on local evaluation and sources of funding.
