Remembering Barry Ramsden

Published: 18th January 2018

Walking for Health would like to pay our respects to Barry Ramsden, a much loved walk leader.

Barry was a dedicated leader of our walks in Billinghay, Lincolnshire. Dean Reed, the scheme coordinator for the North Kesteven Social Strollers, remembers him.

"Barry and Barbara Ramsden moved to Billinghay in 2010 and joined the local Walking for Health group.

"Together with Barbara, Barry trained to become a volunteer walk leader in July 2012.

"Before too long Barry and Barbara had an established a core group of walkers to join them every Monday morning.

"Barry also joined in with the Metheringham walkers, a neighbouring village, on most Friday mornings, enjoying social times with them as well as Billinghay.

"This weekly walking helped Barry notch up over 500 walking hours and over 2000 miles with his local scheme.

"Barry's warm demeanour, cheeky smile and laid back attitude helped make Barry an ideal walk leader and friend to the local waling groups.

"Sadly Barry passed away on Thursday 14th December 2017 following a tragic fall at home.

"Barry will be sadly missed by all involved with his local Walking for Health scheme but rest assured that tales of his wonderful life and kind and witty nature will continue to enrich the conversation of the Billinghay and Metheringham walkers."
