Amesbury Amblers enjoy Coffee Morning
Our walkers have been enjoying coffee and cake in the name of a good cause.
Get Wiltshire Walking’s Amesbury Amblers swapped their usual post walk coffee and chat to join the Macmillan Coffee Morning being hosted by Amesbury Bowls Club last week.
Thirty four walkers joined the bowls club members to sample a wonderful array of cakes worthy of The Great British Bake Off. Many of the walkers also made cakes to add to the superb range, and contributed to the impressive £456 total that was raised from the event.
The money raised from the coffee morning will help Macmillan ensure than no one faces cancer alone.
Rosie Golding, Get Wiltshire Walking scheme coordinator, said: "The walkers within our group who have been treated for and recovered from cancer readily say how regular outdoor exercise and the great companionship and support of a walking group have really helped them through their experience.
"They were all keen to support the Macmillan cause, and had a great time doing so."
Walking during and after treatment for cancer has lots of benefits, including strengthening your bones and heart, reducing body fat, improving mental health, and reducing lymphedema and fatigue.
What's more, lots of people tell us getting active helps them feel like their old self and walking groups are a great way to meet others.
