Halton Get Active - Volunteer of the Year

Published: 21st June 2017

Congratulations to John Timms who recently received the Volunteer of the Year award for his hard work and dedication.

John is a walk leader with Halton Borough Council Walking for Health and was recently named Volunteer of the Year at the Halton Get Active Forum Awards.

Scheme coordinator Paula Parle couldn’t sing John’s praises highly enough!:

“John has just the right personality for motivating other people. He has a sympathetic ear and an understanding approach to those who have experienced difficult periods in their lives.

He is a pleasant gent and goes out of his way to put new walkers at ease and always makes sure they feel welcome.

As a volunteer he can always be relied on to be available to support other people to improve their health and wellbeing. He dedicated his time to train as a walk leader and now gives many hours each week leading health walks.”

Recently he has helped Murdishaw Health Centre put into practice a GP health walk referral scheme along with Paula Parle and the national Walking for Health team. He happily spent time assessing suitable walk routes and now leads walks for patients and takes time to sit and have a cuppa and chat with patients in the health centre.

As a volunteer he is dedicated to bringing pleasure to other people’s lives and improving their health and wellbeing.
