Stafford Borough Walking for Health





Stafford Borough Council Walking for Health programme offers a variety of led walks in and around the Borough. The walks are designed to suit walkers of all abilities, with shorter 'beginner' walks taking place every week. Longer 'progression' walks are offered once or twice a month for those who want more of a challenge.

Led Walks Programme
There are a number of led health walks across Stafford Borough, some held weekly, some fortnightly and some monthly. Walks range from 30 minutes to two hours in length and encourage participants to go at a pace that each individual feels is brisk. Details of all the walks can be found on the WalkWise Calendar, which is available from libraries, tourist information centres and council offices. Wednesday Walkouts: Weekly lunchtime walks meeting at the Shire Hall steps at 12.15. Walks usualy last 30 - 45 minutes. Contact Kim Squires, Stafford Borough Council, 01785 619686
Derrington Health Walks: Weekly led walks on mainly traffic free routes in and around this beautiful village. Meet each Wednesday afternoon at 2.00 by St Matthews Church Derrington. Contact Kim Squires, Stafford Borough Council, 01785 619686
Little Haywood Health Walks: brisk walks around the village including the canal towpath and village routes. Meet each Monday morning at 10:00 outside The Lamb and Flag pub, Main Street, Little Haywood. Enjoy a cuppa and a chat after the walk at the Red Lion. Contact Pat, 07790 113798
Signposts Health Walks: Meet at 10.30 each Thursday at the Signposts Centre, Highfields Stafford to explore this area. Walks include local parks and the area around Stafford's medieval castle. Holmcroft Cafe Connect: Each Tuesday at 10.30. Explore the nearby Doxey marshes and Stafford Common and join us for a cuppa in the cafe after. Contact Kim 01785 619686
Stafford Children’s Centre: Meet every Tuesday at 10.15. Join Buggy About, brisk, pushchair-friendly walks or Footsteps, gentle, toddler friendly walks on alternate weeks. You are always advised to contact the Centres before the walks as the programme may change especially in bad weather. Contact Jackie 01785 854705 for more information.
Hixon Children’s Centre Nature Walks: join us on the last Thursday of each month for a toddler-friendly walk in and aorund this lovely village and then enjoy a refreshing drink after. Stafford Hospital Walk: meet at the side entrance to the hospital every Wednesday at 12.30. Explore Kingston pool Covert and Kingston Hill as well as the surprisingly varied hospital grounds. Vontact Craig 01785 230860
Stone Health Walks: Meet at the Dog walkers car park, Westbridge Park ST15 0BQ at 10:50am every Tuesday. usually offers two walks each week; a short walk for those new to the programme and a longer walk for 'old hands' who want to walk a little further. Contact 01785 813604

Hixon Walk and Talk: slightly longer 'progression' Walks lasting 1.5 - 2.0 hours. meeting on Sunday at 10:30 am on the third Sunday of the month at the Village Hall Hixon,
Doorstep Walks for Health: A series of 15 'Doorstep Walks for Health' have been produced since April 2000. The walks are 3 or 4 miles long linking suburbs to rural areas around Stafford and Stone. They encourage the walker to explore all sorts of interesting features in their neighbourhood.
Each Doorstep Walk has a specially designed leaflet to guide you. The leaflets were designed by local school children and volunteers who helped identify the route and points of interest.
A pack containing all the Stafford Doorstep Walks is available from libraries, tourist information centres and council offices. Stone Doorstep Walk Leaflets are available from Stone Town Library.
