Aqualate Mere Health Walks

Our scheme offers monthly seasonal walks in and around Aqualate Mere National Nature Reserve (NNR) and aims to encourage regular walking for the benefit of our health, both physical and mental. As well as keeping mind and body fit, walking is also a great opportunity to socialise and make new friends.
The walks are free and open to everyone (families welcome). All walks will be led by a trained Volunteer Walk Leader and will also have a back marker.
Aqualate Mere is the largest natural lake in the Midlands and is managed as a National Nature Reserve. The Mere lies at the heart of the Aqualate Estate and is surrounded by outstanding scenery such as a landscaped deer park with many veteran trees.
Aqualate Mere is 2 km east of Newport. By car, access to the reserve is via minor roads from the A518, A519 and A41.
Aqualate Mere is also well served by public transport as the 481 bus service between Newport & Stafford stops 200 yards from the NNR car park.

Our walks
A 2 hour walk (approx) will be held on the first Sunday of each month. DUE TO THE WET NATURE OF THIS SITE, WALKS ARE SEASONAL IN SPRING/SUMMER MONTHS ONLY. 2011 walks are due to run from April to September but please confirm dates with one of the contacts listed.
All walks will commence at 10am from Aqualate Mere NNR car park. We would advise you wear suitable footwear and clothing depending on the weather. Boots or wellies are recommended if it is wet.
