Our walks

Weymouth & Portland Amblers have really got to grips with the social elements of walking. Every year the group go to the German Christmas Markets and stay over in Germany for a few days. They also have "special" walks organised such as walking around the Bristol Canals, walking on Brownsea Island in Poole and 5 or 6 mile special walks. We even have a "fish & chip" walk. Over 60 members join in the walks. Other trips include boat trips, pantomime trips and visits to places of special interest.

Everyone is happy to pay their own way, and we often get a 10% discount for block bookings with the monies then donated back into the fund! We have special sponsored walks that we organise, such as the Great Weymouth Charity Fun walk, where many members of the community join in to raise monies for their own given charity. Our groups also raise monies for themselves, as a £3.00 entrance fee is charged. This helps to cover the costs and most of the set up costs are covered by sponsorship.

Just recently we have set up another 2 walking groups in our area, targeting health hot spots. We are lucky enough to have our very own cascade volunteer walk leader - who spends most of his time training and assessing new walk leaders in the Dorset area.

We have designed our own badges and these are given out to walkers after they have completed 10 walks - which is appreciated by all - a real sense of belonging to a group!
