Our walks

At Stepping Out our aim is to encourage people to become more active through walking, especially those who haven't been active for a while, or who are recovering from illness.

We try to find attractive areas of the city to walk in, hence we have one walk along the Quay, one over playing fields and alongside the canal, one through the City Centre itself taking in the cathedral and other historic sites on the way, one alongside a reservoir, and one on playing fields bordering a beautiful valley park. All of these are within 2 and a half miles of the city centre.

At Stepping Out, Exeter! we rely on volunteers to lead the walks and encourage walkers to increase their activity levels. If you like people, enjoy being in the open air and could commit to a regualr slot once a week or once a fortnight, this could be for you. We also need volunteers for other aspects of the scheme, such as publicity and running the volunteer rota. We offer training, out of pocket expenses and ongoing support to all our volunteers.
