Burnley: Active Spaces





An exciting walking/cycling project for the Burnley/Padiham/Hapton areas.
The project is called ‘Active Spaces – Burnley’, the project office is based at St Peters Centre, Burnley. The project will be working in partnership with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, NHS, PCT and Burnley Council.
Our walks
Monday - Fitness Session & Walk. Old Colne Road Library Building
Starting 11.00. Join us for a gentle walk and have some fun. Class A walk. Walk lasts approx 1hr.
Monday – Howard Street Walk. Howard Street Health Centre.
Starting 13.00. Join us for a gentle walk. Class A walk. Walk lasts approx 1hr.
Monday – Temple Street Resource Centre.
Starting 13.30. Join us for a gentle walk aimed at people with mental health/disability issues. Class A walk. Walk lasts approx 1hr.
Monday – Padiham Walk. Meet outside Padiham Leisure Centre, for 13.30, for a local walk. Walk class B or C, walk lasts for 1½ hours.
Tuesday - Thursby Surgery , Browhead Road. Meet at 10.00. Join us for a walk into Queens Park for a steadily paced walk lasting between ½ hour to 1 hour. Class A Walk.
Wednesday Whopper Walk – Different venue each week. Meet 09.30 at St Peters Leisure Centre Reception, or 10.00 at the venue (see Tuesdays Burnley Express or St Peters Leisure Centre Notice Board for walk location alternatively telephone 01282 452381). Walk class B and C.
Wednesday – Temple Street Resource Centre.
Starting 13.30. Join us for a gentle walk aimed at people with mental health/disability issues. Class A walk. Walk lasts approx 1hr.
Thursday – Kiddrow Lane Walk – Meet at 11.00 for a children friendly walk
Class A. Walk lasts approx 1 hour.
Thursday - Local History Walk. Alternate weeks; meet outside Burnley Library at 10.00 or outside Padiham Town Hall. Join us for a guided historical tour of Burnley/Padiham. Class A/B walk. Walk lasts approx 1hour.
NEWS!!
We have recently acquired six new adapted cycles, these cycles are adult sized three wheeler bikes, three cycles are hand-cranked, three cycles are ‘normal’ pedalled.
We will be using these new cycles from Spring 2012 to raise community fitness in Burnley and the Rossendale areas.
Walk classes: A - Easy, B – Moderate, some stiles and gradients;
C – Strenuous longer walks with stiles & gradients.
Please bring any medication you may require with you.
Appropriate weatherproof clothing and footwear required for all walks.
Come and join us, come on your own or with a crowd, we’ll make everyone welcome, you’ll be integrated into the group, regular walkers will talk to you, come on, you know you want to.
If you’re not a good walker join our A class walks and progress onto B and C classed walks as you get fitter. We promise you, we’re a friendly group.
All Walk Leaders are CRB checked, First Aid trained, all walks are Risk Assessed.

Day of walk: Thursdays (weekly)
Walk start time 10.00
Finish Time approx 11.30
All walks start from Burnley Central Library or Padiham Town Hall.
All walks are urban and could include some steps and gentle slopes, most walks will be along paved routes.
These walks are set at a gentle pace, plenty of stopping and talking on route, ideal for people who are not good walkers or who wish to increase their fitness levels to an average level.
