Canonbury Walking Group

Region: London
Last updated: 06, October 2010

The Walking Group is one of several different activities offered at the Canonbury Recreation Centre. This caters mostly for the over-55's and includes a lunch club mondays to fridays. We are based at "The Bridge" in the heart of the Marquess Estate.

Our walks

Walks take place every wednesday morning, 10.30-12.30

The walks begin at our centre (The Bridge) and take a circular route through different parts of the local area/borough, returning at the centre about 12.30. We try and take a different route each week to keep it interesting. Occasionally, we will stop and visit some interesting site on our route, and we usually stop for a hot chocolate or coffee, about 2/3 of the way through our walk and have a short breather.

The group currently numbers about 6-8 regulars and we would love to increase this. It is a very friendly and social group.

Events

We did a longer walk last summer (2009)  along the Regent's Canal from our centre to Broadway market in Hackney, where we had lunch, and then walked back along the Canal and back to the centre.

We hope to do some longer walks again, once the weather improves, to places of special interest in local and surrounding areas.
