The Active Together Melton team helps to organise weekly walks in cooperation with the Friends of the Country Park, the Senior’s Forum, and the SureStart Family Outreach workers. The sessions are very popular and are a great way to keep fit and meet new people. All walks have been accredited by Walking for Health.

Our walks

Senior walks

The senior walks take place every Thursday. There are two types of walk which are indicated by heart levels. The one heart level walks average between 30 minutes to 1 hour on good surfaces and fairly flat routes with no stiles. The walks are always at Melton Country Park and are suitable to newcomers to walking. Meet at Melton Country Park visitor centre at the end of Wymondham Way at 1.30pm. The two heart level walks are up to 90 minutes covering a variety of paths, which maybe uphill and over stiles. Paths may be uneven or muddy in places, and appropriate footwear must be worn. Meet at Egerton Park at 1.30pm to travel to the destination. Both walks have front and back leaders so all walkers can find their own pace.

Buggy Walks

Buggy walks take place ever Friday around Wilton Park in Melton. Walkers will meet at Wilton Park at 10.30am, every Friday. Everyone in the family will be welcome to join the walks and enjoy some gentle activity in a secure environment.

Liz Ashbridge, Physical Activity Development Officer, said: ‘’It can be really hard to stay fit and find time to get out and about with a new baby in the house.

“This is a great opportunity for mothers to meet up and have fun, whilst benefiting their health - and best of all it’s free!”

If you are interested in coming to the walks, or want more information, then please contact us on the details.

Beginners Health Walks

Our beginners health walks are starting on Wednesday 27th July, and on every Wednesday thereafter. They will start at 10.30am, and will last 30 minutes to an hour. They are suitable for all abilities and ages and everyone is welcome. The terrain is fairly good, with few hills and no stiles. Trained walk leaders will be present to lead the walk and give you support. Meet at the cafe in the county park at 10.30am. We look forward to seeing you!

Active Together is a countywide programme that aims to encourage adults aged 16+, to become more active more often.

There are Physical Activity Development Officers across Leicestershire (based at the Local Authorities) who are there to help you become more active. Each district has a programme of regular activities.

Why not contact your local development officer and find out how to become more active in an area near you. www.lrsport.org.uk/active
