Hucknall Taking Steps

Region: East Midlands
Last updated: 18, October 2011

Our walks

Programme of led walks open to all. Some walkers are referred by local GPs, but anyone is welcome, especially those who would benefit by increasing their activity levels. Led walks take place every Monday and Wednesday at 10am from Under One Roof, 3A Vine Terrace, Hucknall, Nottingham. NG15 7HN.

Monday walks are suitable for people who are not used to exercise. Walks last up to 45 minutes on good paths and pavements and are around Hucknall. Most routes are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

On the Wednesday Walks there is the opportunity to go on longer walks visiting local countryside sites, such as The Ranges, Dob Park, Mill Lakes, Papplewick and Linby. These walks last between 1.1/2 to 2 hours, and may include some stiles, public footpaths and gentle slopes so are not suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

From Spring until the Autumn we usually do a "special" walk once a month, i.e. Wollaton Park, University Park, Nottingham Canal, Attenborough Nature Reserve, Creswell Crags, to name but a few.  We use public transport wherever possible.

We usually have an annual bus trip and walk in the Autumn, approximately 1.1/2 hour's bus ride from Hucknall.  This can take us anywhere from Derbyshire to Leicestershire - last year we visited Foxton Locks.  We are currently deciding where to go this year.

Events

2011

During the months of January and February we only do "usual" walks, i.e. local to Hucknall.

During March it is intended to catch a tram and train to Attenborough and then walk around the Nature Reserve.  We then hope to walk back to Beeston Rylands train station and catch a train back into Nottingham and then a tram back to Hucknall.  Date to be announced later.
