Become a walk leader

Walking for Health offers free training to people who are willing and able to lead health walks in their community.
Training for Volunteer Walk Leaders
Anyone who is interested in applying for this course should:
- have attended a local health walk scheme or
- be in the process of setting up a scheme
About this course:
- It's free
- 1-day course
- Takes place all over the country
- Follow-up training provided
The course is a practical day and covers topics such as:
- risk assessments
- how to lead a health walk
- benefits of and barriers to exercise
- information on specific medical conditions
- benefits of the natural environment for health and wellbeing
- resources available to you to make the most of your new skills, including a Volunteer Walk Leader Manual and walk leader certificate.
How to register for walk leader training
Training courses are advertised on the training calendar. Please contact the Cascade Trainer/organiser directly to arrange attendance.
If you cannot find an event on the training calendar, please contact us. Although in some cases it may be necessary to find trainers by contacting local schemes. This can be done by using the walk finder.
Walk Leader Training Pack for people with learning disabilities
We also have a Walk Leader Training Pack for people with learning disabilities. This is a training pack endorsed by Walking for Health. It costs £30 and can be ordered from Stefanie Rubbert on 0121 465 8860 or email stefanie.rubbert@bhamcommunity.nhs.uk
