Welcome to Bolton’s Walking Weekend. Walking is free, fun, healthy and a great way to meet new people and make friends!
Friday 9 September
10am: Nordic Walking Taster
Meet at: Leverhulme Park Community Club, Long Lane, Breightmet. BL2 6EB
Grade: __ Approximately 1 mile
Brief description: Adults only. Try the latest craze in walking! Nordic Walking is an enhancement of ordinary walking – it makes something we can all do… twice as effective. Come to Leverhulme Park and have a go.

Longer description: A very varied walk across the golf course to Moss Bank Park with panoramic views of the Pennines and the Manchester conurbation, then by streams, through woods up to Smithills Hall before returning along ancient bridleways to Bob's Smithy via Barrow Bridge with extensive views over to Winter Hill (possible extension up to Horrocks Wood).

Meet at: Ladybridge Surgery, Broadgate, Ladybridge, Bolton. BL3 4PZ
Grade: __2.5 to 3 miles
Brief description: Walk through Haslam Park with scenic views across to Rivington Pike then onto the Middlebrook trail. Refreshments can be purchased at the Beaumont Arms upon return from the walk.

Meet at: Environmental Resource Centre, 499 – 511 Bury Road, Bolton. BL2 6DH
Grade: _ 2.5 miles
Brief description: This is a circular walk around Seven Acres LNR which is a river valley site with a variety of different habitats making it a perfect area for wildlife including bats. Torch required. To book, ring 01204 663754

12:30pm: Friends of Eatock Lodge Nature Ramble
Meet at: Eatock Lodge LNR, The Hoskers, Westhoughton. BL5 2DW. Map reference SD 64 90 47

Brief description: A wander around Eatock Lodge Nature Reserve then on to Cunningham Clough to look at the plants, insects, birds and historical features of interest. Bring binoculars if you have them.

Brief description: A circular walk taking in panoramic views across to Affetside and the Edgeworth moors. A short refreshment stop is made after 1 hours walking.

Brief description: Night walk around Leverhulme Park to discover the wildlife which comes out at dusk at this fantastic nature site. We will be looking for signs of mammals and insects!

1pm: Middlebrook Ramble
Meet at: Queens Park children’s playground off Park Road, Bolton. BL1 4RU

Brief description: Walk along the Middlebrook Trail and back to Queens Park. Bring refreshments.

1:30pm: Eat the Nature Reserve
Meet at: Environmental Resource Centre, 499-511 Bury Road, Bolton. BL2 6DH
Grade: _ 2.5 miles
Brief description: Walk around Seven Acres LNR to learn about the types of food and drink which can be made from things growing at the site. Samples will be available to literally eat the nature reserve! Cost for adults 50p, children free.

2pm: From Park to Park
Meet at: Daisy Hill Parish Church (St James the Great) Lower Leigh Road, Daisy Hill, Westhoughton, Bolton. BL5 2EH
Grade: __ 4.5 miles
Brief description: A very varied walk starting through Hall Lea Bank Park crossing the fields to Hulton Park before returning on the Rotary Way to Daisy Hill.

Monday 12 September
1pm: Smithills Wanderings and Secrets
Meet at: Moss Bank Park main car park. The car park entrance is from Moss Bank Way
Grade: __ 5 miles
Brief description: The walk will take in Barrow Bridge and climb the 63 steps continuing on to explore secret woodland, before walking up to the lonely reservoir above Coal Pit Lane and descending through farmland towards the chimney back to Moss Bank Park.

2pm: Ladybridge Health Walk
Meet at: Ladybridge Surgery, Broadgate, Ladybridge. BL3 4PZ

Brief description: An intermediate length health walk.
Walk Lead by: Bolton Council health walk leader
Whatever the weather, a leader will be at the start of each event to decide whether or not the walk will go ahead. Sturdy shoes or boots, waterproofs and warm clothing is recommended.
Walks are unsuitable for dogs.
